Background

Salem County has undertaken a project to mill and resurface approximately 4.35 miles of Quaker Neck Road (CR 657) between the City of Salem / Township of Mannington Border (M.P. 1.30) and Kerlin Road (M.P. 5.65) in Alloway Township. Approximately 2,070 ft of guide rail will be replaced between 130 ft west of North Union Street (M.P. 1.11) and Kerlin Road (M.P. 5.65). Signing, and striping will be upgraded. The goal of this project is to make improvements to the roadway surface and enhance public safety for all roadway users.

Project Consultant: Pennoni Associates, Inc.

During design, Pennoni will strive to identify feasible, constructible design concepts, minimize the time for permit acquisition, minimize the impact to the traveling public, reduce long term maintenance, and provide a cost-effective solution within the project schedule.

Proposed Construction

Salem County proposes to mill and resurface approximately 4.35 miles of Quaker Neck Road (CR 657) between M.P. 1.30 and M.P. 5.65:

  • Resurface the existing roadway within the existing roadway footprint (no widening is to take place).
  • Replace/upgrade existing sections of guiderail.
  • Improve signage throughout the corridor.
  • New striping for lanes and shoulders.

Construction will be staged and performed with lane and shoulder closures. Alternating traffic maintained through the work zone during construction.
