Route 140 westbound ramp to I-295 northbound to be closed and detoured overnight in Carneys Point, Salem County. Closures necessary for milling and paving work.

(Trenton) – New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a series of ramp closures this week in Carneys Point and Pennsville Township as the I-295 Delaware River to Route 48 pavement project continues in Salem County.

Tonight, Monday, June 13
Beginning at 10 p.m. tonight, Monday, June 13 until 5 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, June 14, NJDOT’s contractor, South State, Inc., is scheduled to close the Route 140/Hawks Bridge Road westbound ramp to I-295 northbound for guiderail installation. The following detour will be in place:

Route 140/Hawks Bridge Road westbound ramp to I-295 northbound detour:

Motorists on Route 140 Hawks Bridge Road westbound wishing to take the ramp to I-295 northbound will be directed to continue on Route 140 Hawks Bridge Road westbound
Take the ramp to CR 551 South/Hook Road/Salem (which is also the ramp to I-295 southbound)
Take Exit 2B to Route 140 Hawks Bridge Road eastbound
Take the ramp to I-295 northbound

Daytime Tuesday, June 14 through Thursday, June 16
From 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, June 14, and again on Wednesday, June 15 and Thursday, June 16, the ramp from Route 49 eastbound/North Broadway to I-295 northbound is scheduled to be closed for curb construction. The following detour will be in place:

Route 49 eastbound/North Broadway ramp to I-295 northbound detour:

Motorists on Route 49 eastbound/North Broadway wishing to take the ramp to I-295 northbound will be directed to continue on Route 49 eastbound, which becomes Route 130 northbound
Turn right onto Route 140/Hawks Bridge Road eastbound
Take the ramp to I-295 northbound

Overnight Tuesday, June 14 through Thursday, June 16
From 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, June 14, and again Wednesday, June 15 and Thursday, June 16, the ramp from Route 140 eastbound to CR 551 is scheduled to be closed for milling and paving. The following detour will be in place:

Route 140/Hawks Bridge Road eastbound ramp to CR 551 detour:

Motorists on Route 140/Hawks Bridge Road eastbound wishing to take the ramp to CR 551 southbound will be directed to continue on Route 140/Hawks Bridge Road eastbound
Turn left to take the ramp to I-295 southbound
Take Exit 1 to Route 49 eastbound/Pennsville/Salem
Turn left onto Old Pennsville-Auburn Road, which becomes CR 551 southbound

The $8.2 million state-funded I-295, Delaware River Memorial Bridge to Route 48 roadway improvement project will resurface approximately 3.5 miles of I-295 southbound between Carneys Point and Pennsville, Salem County. The project also includes pavement and curb repairs and guiderail installation. The project is expected to be completed in fall 2022.
