Project Overview

The project comprises pavement resurfacing and safety improvements along Telegraph Road (County Route #540) for a distance of 1.77 miles from the Alloway Township/Quinton Township municipal line at the west end (milepost (MP) 15.40) to Pecks Corner Road (County Route #667) at the east end (MP 17.17). Within the project limits, Telegraph Road is a 30 foot wide road comprised of a 12-foot travel lane with 2 to 3-foot shoulders in each direction. Salem County commissioned a pavement analysis of the roadway, with the findings that the roadway pavement is in “poor” condition with predominant fatigue cracking with potholes forming in the severe cracking areas. The County is using NJDOT “Local Aid” funding to mill and repave the full roadway width, with construction scheduled in early 2026. Along with the paving work, existing road signs will be replaced with new signs meeting Federal retro-reflectivity requirements, guide rail will be upgraded to current safety standards, and driveway aprons will be paved for a distance of 8-10 feet from the pavement edge into the driveway. Construction is expected to start in Spring 2026 and last for approximately 2 months.
