Project Overview

The proposed undertaking involves pavement resurfacing and comprehensive safety enhancements along Griffith Street and Grant Street (County Route #657) . The project spans a distance of 1.30 miles, beginning at the intersection with NJ Route #49 (Milepost 0.00) and extending to the Salem City / Mannington Township Municipal Boundary (Milepost 1.30). Within these limits the roadway consists of a variable-width asphalt cartway bordered primarily by concrete curb and gutter.

Based on a comprehensive assessment of the infrastructure, the existing pavement exhibits signs of deterioration necessitating rehabilitation. The County is utilizing NJDOT funding to perform milling and overlay of the roadway surface. Complementing the paving operations, the project includes significant upgrades to pedestrian accessibility, specifically the construction of ADA-compliant concrete curb ramps and detectable warning surfaces Additionally, the scope of work provides for the reconstruction of concrete curbs, gutters, and sidewalks where necessary. Traffic safety will be bolstered through the installation of new regulatory and warning signage, the upgrade of guide rails to current safety standards, and the application of new long-life traffic striping and raised pavement markers. Construction is tentatively scheduled to commence in Summer 2026.

If you have any questions concerning the above matter please contact the undersigned via emallor phone. We look forward to your participation as we work to improve the safety and quality of Salem County’s infrastructure.

Sincerely,
