The Salem County Administrative Committee approved forming an exploratory ad hoc committee to include representatives from the Economic Development Council, county, business, and community members to review the Amazon HQ2 Request for Proposal (RFP).
Amazon has issued a request for proposal (RFP) for its second corporate headquarters in North America “HQ2” for up to 8 million square feet of space.
“This potential opportunity will be competitive and widely pursued; however, Salem County is a prime location for Amazon to expand their headquarters, said Bob Vanderslice, Freeholder Director and Liaison of the Economic Development Council. The Economic Development Council has been diligently working to be prepared for opportunities such as this and the Board of Chosen Freeholder will assist and support their efforts.”
The Exploratory Ad Hoc Committee has already met to review the core preferences, discuss potential locations, and begin preparing the proposal. The formation of an Exploratory Ad Hoc Committee will allow individuals not serving on the Economic Council to be involved in developing the proposal.
“This is an energizing activity for us and the L.O.V.E. Economic Campaign has prepared us to market Salem County and our assets Location, Opportunity, Values, and Energized work force,” stated Michael Gorman, Salem Community College President and member of the Exploratory Ad Hoc Committee.
Salem County’s location provides those businesses that require or desire access to major highways, waterway, rail, and close proximity to Delaware, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and New York.
Amazon expects to invest over $5 billion in construction and grow this second headquarters to include as many as 50,000 high paying jobs. In addition to Amazon’s direct hiring and investment, construction, and ongoing operation of Amazon HQ2 is expected to create tens of thousands of additional jobs and tens of billions of dollars investment in the surrounding community.
Vanderslice said, “As a County we will continue to go after every opportunity that looks like a good fit for our county. Salem County is an excellent choice for Amazon to meet their business needs and the advantages of this region for their employees. We are excited to work with them and show them the benefits of locating their facility in our county.”
