We extend our deepest sympathy to Lew Sheets' family and the Salem Fire Department. ... See MoreSee Less

With great sadness, the officers and members of the Salem Fire Department announce the untimely and unexpected passing of long-time SFD firefighter Lew Sheets. Lew was recently recognized for having served the SFD for over 50 years. He served in many capacities with the Union and Washington fire companies over the years, including fire line offices up to and including Battalion Chief. Most recently Lew simply enjoyed driving and helping around the firegrounds. His absence will be felt for a very long time, and we will miss our brother deeply ... The passing of Lew marks the second such unexpected tragedy to befall the SFD family in as many weeks. In addition to the Sheets and Westcott families, please hold our brother and sister firefighters up high as they push through their grief ... J. Fred Ayars Salem City Fire Chief and the officers and members of the Union, Liberty, and Washington Fire Companies.

"Let's Make Salem County the 'KINDEST' County in New Jersey Shout out...
We were told Pennsville Town Watch and Community Pride made a Kindness Shout Out! Congratulations to Sandy Brown for your Act of Kindness!

Pennsville Town Watch and Community Pride posted:
It has been brought to our attention that a member of our Community has been cutting the grass at the Broadway Diner on the corner of
Benson and Broadway. This Pennsville resident does things for our Community without any desire for recognition. She also brought doughnuts to every Pennsville Town Watch Meeting. Her name is Sandy Brown. (Please don't be mad at us Sandy).
She is a role model for Pennsville Town Watch & Community Pride.
We have some wonderful people in our town.
WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR OUR TOWN?

The potential for excessive heat continues Tuesday through Thursday for our area per the National Weather Service. Hazardous Weather: High temperatures are forecast in the low to mid-90s Tuesday through Thursday. When factoring in the humidity, heat indices may approach 100 on Tuesday and Wednesday from the NJ Turnpike/I-95 and points southeastward. Thursday, widespread advisory level heat indices of 100 to 105 may occur across the entire area. Impacts: These heat index values can cause heat related stress particularly among at-risk populations. Those especially vulnerable include the elderly, children, those with pre-existing conditions, particularly if they live in or near urban centers without air conditioning. In addition, for those working in direct sunlight, heat index values at or above 90 degrees may lead to heat stress. Please check on the at-risk populations and don't forget the pets/animals that are outside.
