Safety Mission Statement

Protecting the health and safety of employees, visitors and the environment is the primary concern of all at the County of Salem. This goal will be met through the development of a comprehensive and effective environmental health and safety program that endeavors to eliminate unsafe conditions and minimize the impact of hazardous situations. Such a program will benefit the County of Salem by reducing illness and injury to employees and visitors, preventing property damage and preserving the environment. The County of Salem will make every reasonable effort to promote, create, and maintain a safe and healthful environment.

This can only be realized by adherence to basic safety principles, sound management practices, and compliance with applicable federal, state, and local codes, laws and standards. The responsibility for safety in each department remains with the department head. Each supervisor is to ensure that work is done in a safe manner, inspections are conducted on a regular basis, hazards are reported and accident investigations are conducted when necessary.
