PHARMACEUTICAL ASSISTANCE TO THE AGED AND DISABLED
PAAD is a program available to senior citizens 65 and over and
disabled persons receiving Social Security Disability whose income
is under $24,432 for a single person, and under $29,956 for a
couple. This program enables eligible people to purchase generic prescriptions for $6.00 and brand name for $7.00. You can also use the PAAD card to get a
reduction on your automobile registration.
LIFELINE
This program is available to persons who are 65 or older, or persons
receiving Social Security Disability whose income is under $24,432
for a single person and $29,956 for a married couple. The program
enables eligible people to receive a $225 credit on their electric
and/or gas bills.
SENIOR
GOLD
Senior Gold is a prescription program for those who have income
between $24,432-$34,432 if single or $29,956-$39,956 if married.
You must be 65 or older or disabled and receiving Social Security
Disability. There is a co-pay of $15.00 per prescription, plus one
half of the remainder of the cost of the medication.
SALEM
COUNTY PRESCRIPTION SAVINGS CARD PROGRAM
This is a prescription discount card for any Salem County resident.
The program provides a 10-to-50 percent savings on regular retail
prescription prices at participating pharmacies. The cost for a
household is $20.00 for one year or $40.00 for three years. There
are no income limits, quantity limits, or deductibles. Brand name
and generic drugs are covered. To obtain an application contact the

ADULT
PROTECTIVE SERVICES
This program is
designed to respond in critical situations to a request for
assistance of Salem County residents 60 years of age or older and to
disabled residents. The program offers assistance to residents who
are in situations of abuse, financial exploitation, neglect or those who need

The Salem County
Office on Aging provides Adult Protective Services to people age 60 or persons with disabilities 18 and over.
For our office to investigate: -
There must be an
allegation of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.

The client is incapable of having control over his or her own life
because a physical or mental disability or dementia.
Other
services provided by Adult Protective Services may include: -
An attorney
may be consulted to determine if legal action is needed.

A psychiatrist
may be contacted to evaluate the customer, and if necessary,
other persons involved in the situation.

Arrangements
can be made for meals and homemaker services.

The police,
medical services, financial institutions and other family members
may be contacted for assistance or information.

SPECIALIZED TRANSPORTATION
SALEM COUNTY
SENIOR CITIZEN & DISABLED RESIDENT TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM
If you are a Salem
County resident 60 years of age and older or a disabled resident
under the age of 60, the Salem County Specialized Transportation
Service is available to you.
The County Senior
Citizen and Disabled Resident Transportation Program can be used to
transport you to medical appointments including doctor’s visits,
physical therapy, radiation treatments, dialysis, or laboratory
visits. The system can also provide transportation to congregate
nutrition sites, social service appointments, and shopping trips.
Service is
available to all fifteen municipalities in Salem County with funds
received under the Senior and Disabled Resident Transportation
Assistance Act (Casino funds).
Please note that a minimum 48-hour (2 business days) advance notice is required for all
transportation referrals.

staff is available to assist you Monday through Friday from 10:00
a.m. to 3:00 p.m
Contributions are
voluntary and are returned to the Specialized Transportation Program
to help offset costs. Customers are asked to share the costs of
bridge tolls for out-of-county transportation. A project funded
under the Senior Citizen and Disabled Resident Transportation
Assistance Act (Casino Fund), Title XIX of the Social Security Act
(Medicaid), Title III of the Older Americans Act, Title 3 of the Older Americans Act and the New Jersey
Division of Senior Services.
ASSISTED TRANSPORTATION
This program provides help for those who are unable to safely ride
the Specialized Transportation System alone and have no one to help
them ride the van. For more information contact the Office on Aging

HOME DELIVERED
MEALS
These are available to homebound senior citizens that are not
capable of going to a nutrition site for a meal. There is an
evaluation process to determine those most in need of these meals.

WEEKEND MEALS
Weekend meals are delivered to homebound senior citizens on weekends
and holidays. Saturday’s meal is a hot meal and Sunday’s meal is a
precooked frozen meal that the participant must reheat. There is an
evaluation process to determine those most in need of these meals.

LEGAL SERVICES
This program handles cases involving governmental benefits and
entitlements, landlord/tenant relationships, protective services and
pensions at no cost to the customers. The legal provider is South
Jersey Legal Services; 1-800-510-2492.
CONGREGATE
NUTRITION SITE
Salem County has
three centers where a nutritionally balanced meal is served.
Recreational activities are also provided at the centers. New
applicants for the sites must call Home Care and Hospice Care of
South Jersey, Inc., at (856) 878-6035, to see if they are eligible
for the program. Sites are open 9:00 am-1:00 pm.
ADULT DAYCARE
This program provides medical supervision and care in a group
setting for adults that should not be left alone during the day.
Some financial assistance may be available to help cover the cost.

STATE HEALTH
INSURANCE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (SHIP)
Trained counselors
are available to provide you with information on the various health
insurances available to all Salem County residents on Medicare and
to help you make an informed decision in regard to health insurance.

IN-HOME SERVICES
This is an in-home service program that could provide a certified
home health aide to assist with personal care and home maintenance.

JERSEY
ASSISTANCE FOR COMMUNITY CAREGIVING
JACC provides a broad array of in-home services and supports that
enable an individual at risk of placement in a nursing facility to
remain in his/her community home. A uniquely designed package of
supports is intended to supplement and strengthen the capacity of
caregivers and to delay placement in a nursing facility. JACC is not
a Medicaid program and requires a cost share based on income only.
The individual may own a home and car and have countable resources
below $40,000 for an individual and $60,000 for a couple. For

GLOBAL OPTIONS ( GO ) / NJEASE HOMECARE
GLOBAL OPTIONS is a uniquely designed program
to supplement the assistance an individual receives from his/her
natural support network as well as from community agencies and
volunteer groups. This program has all the services available
through the State Medicaid Program. The individual may own their own
home and car, but cannot have resources above $2,000 or an income
above $1,737 per month. Contact your NJEASE Office on Aging at (856)

504 LOAN & GRANT PROGRAM
To provide a 1% repair loan and/or grant to home owners in designated rural areas with a household income below the very low income limit for the area. Applicants looking for a low interest loan must be unable to obtain credit elsewhere, and meet income and credit guidelines and show repayment for the loan. Those looking for a grant must be 62 years of age, or older, and unable to repay a 1% loan for 20 year term. Repairs can be for removal of health and safety hazards. Maximum grant amount is $7,500. PHYSICAL FITNESS
This program provides exercise and fitness programs at no cost to
the participant. Weekly fitness programs for seniors are offered
through the Campbell Fitness Center in Salem and the Young Men's
Christian Association (YMCA) in Carneys Point. For more information

NOTARY PROGRAM
This program program notarizes simple documents for Salem County residents who are at least 60 years of age or those under 60 who are disabled. A photo ID is required to verify eligibility and authenticate the identity of the person requesting the notary service. This office will not notarize Power of Attorney (POA), Wills, or other similar legal documents. MIPPA (Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act) Do you want to save money? This program could help pay some or all your Medicare Parts B & D premium, deductible, co-insurance and/or co-pay costs. Other programs the grant includes are the Medicare Savings Programs known as QMB, SLMB and QI-1, low income subsidy known as "Extra Help" and PAAD.
