Mannington -- Salem County Sheriff John Cooksey kicked off the ‘BUCKLE
UP" safety awareness program Friday by stenciling the message and seatbelt
logo onto the driveway of the Salem County Correctional Facility.
"Organizations and businesses that want to participate in this safety
awareness campaign can have the stenciling done on their parking lots for free,"
said Sheriff Cooksey.
Cooksey said the timing is right to launch the safety campaign.
"With summer over and schools back in session, we tend to get back into our
hurried lifestyles," said Cooksey. "Drivers and passengers need to be reminded
that seat belts save lives. I urge all schools and any business that is
frequented by young drivers to have the safety message stenciled onto their
driveways."
The Sheriff has already received various requests from Pittsgrove Township to
stencil parking lots there.
Freeholder Director Dave Sparks, who helped the Sheriff with the County’s
first stenciling in the campaign, said the safety awareness program is being
sponsored by the South Jersey Traffic Alliance, of which the County is a member.
"The Alliance is providing the stencils and paint, and inmates at the
Correctional Facility will assist with the painting as a community service,"
said Sparks.
If you would like to participate in the safety awareness program and schedule
your parking lot for stenciling, contact Corporal Chuck Priest at 935-7510, extension
8373. Requests can be faxed to 856-878-1648.
